Il corso si propone di fornire agli studenti una conoscenza teorica e pratica delle prassi ecdotiche di restituzione critica dei testi norreni.
The course aims at providing the students with theoretical and practical approaches to the critical restitution of Old Norse texts.

Conoscenza delle caratteristiche linguistiche, storiche, letterarie, paleografiche e critico-testuali, della lingua e letteratura norrena. Acquisizione delle conoscenze a livello specialistico dei maggiori fenomeni riguardanti lo sviluppo diacronico della fonologia, della morfologia, e della sintassi della lingua norrena e dei processi ecdotici di edizione di un testo medievale.
Advance understanding of the linguistic, historical, literary, paleographic, and textual features and idiosyncrasies of the Old Norse language and literature. By the end of the course, students will have a solid knowledge of the major diachronic developments of Old Norse-Icelandic phonology, morphology, and syntax, as well as an advanced understanding of the specific text-critical criteria followed by sound editors of medieval texts.

Seminario e laboratorio filolologico. Il corso comprende 36 ore (6 CFU) di lezioni frontali e seminariali. Tutte le lezioni saranno tenute in lingua inglese.
Seminar and philological workshop. The course consists of 36 hours (6 CFU) and includes both frontal and seminar classes. The whole course will be conducted in English.

Modalità di verifica dell'apprendimento
L'apprendimento viene verificato attraverso un colloquio orale di circa 45 minuti in cui verranno poste quattro domande su parti diverse del programma. Gli studenti frequentanti avranno la possibilità di integrare il colloquio orale con una ricerca da presentare alla classe su un tema da concordare col docente.
Students knowledge is assessed by a final oral examination that lasts about 45 mins and includes four questions on diverse topics examined in the course. Attenders will be given the opportunity to integrate the oral examination with a term paper to be presented to the class on a topic accorded by the course instructor.

Scopo del modulo è fornire agli studenti le principali nozioni storiche, linguistiche, letterarie, ecdotiche e paleografiche per la comprensione, contestualizzazione e restituzione critica di Páls saga postola I, uno dei testi agiografici più antichi della tradizione norrena. Dopo un'introduzione alla lingua e alla letteratura norrena, gli studenti verranno guidati dal docente in un lavoro di trascrizione diplomatica e traduzione del testo direttamente sui due manoscritti medievali superstiti, Copenaghen, Den Arnamagnæanske Samling, AM 645 4to (ff. 43r-51v) e AM 655 4to XVI (ff. 3r-4v), redatti durante la prima metà del tredicesimo secolo. Le fonti latine soggiacenti le sezioni studiate verranno identificate tramite l'uso dei database della Patrologia Latina, Corpus Christianorum e In Principio e un nuovo testo critico verrà stabilito tramite procedure ecdotiche e criteri di critica testuale.
The program aims to provide an advance understanding of Páls saga postola I, one of the earliest hagiographical texts to be translated into Old Norse, through core principles and topics of Medieval History, Linguistics, Literature, Palaeography, and Textual Criticism. After an introduction into the Old Norse language and literature, the class will work first-hand on the Old Norse manuscripts. The entire text will be transcribed and translated directly from the two medieval codices preserving it, Copenaghen, Den Arnamagnæanske Samling, AM 645 4to (ff. 43r-51v) e AM 655 4to XVI (ff. 3r-4v), dating from the first half of the thirteenth century. Its Latin sources will be identified with the aid of the Patrologia Latina, Corpus Christianorum, and In Principio databases, and a new text will be established according to the procedures of Textual Criticism.
